Back in 2013 we received some unusual questions and searches about a new EastEnders character. A few people wanted to find out: Is that Robert De Niro in EastEnders?? and Does Robert De Niro have a brother in EastEnders? We couldn’t help but find this really funny, as it had already occurred to us that new bad-boy Carl White (Kirsty Branning’s ex, played by Daniel Coonan) occasionally had more than passing resemblance to Mr Robert De Niro!
Carl remains one of our favourite EastEnders baddies. The character was a master at reading people and ‘getting inside their head’ if necessary. This had the potential to make him a very interesting prospect. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be: He met his demise at the hands of Ronnie Mitchell after an ill-fated affair with Roxy. We had really hoped he would remain for a longer stint and shake up Albert Square.
We put our light hearted spot to Daniel Coonan on twitter, regarding Carl being Robert De Niro’s doppelganger and this was his response:
